Boulder isn't exactly your average sedate town. People in these parts like to get out and make tracks. Whether it's running 100 miles at 10,000 feet or banging over boulders at night on the TH night cruiser ride, we're all crazy to get up and go. In addition to having the less oxygen, more out-of-breath thing in common, we also tend to drink a lot of mate - and we're convinced that it helps us go a little faster, a little further.
Take for example, Steve Luckey. Crazier than most PhDs, Steve competes in big triathlons, ultras, and lots of other you-gotta-be-kiddingly long high-altitude races.
Steve used to drink a lot of coffee, and it left him feeling nervous and jittery. Which isn't so unusual. But since Steve competes in all these wacko races, he was already pretty nervous and jittery before the starter's gun went off. He didnšt need the bonus jitters that coffee brought.
So he started looking around for something to take the place of coffee. Steve tried mate, and really liked how it made him feel. Calm, focused and determined. The bad news was, it tasted... well, bad. That's where Pixie Mate comes in.
"Thankfully," Steve says, "I discovered Pixie Mate as I was training for my first 100-mile endurance race. I was an instant fan of Pixie Mate's taste and soft buzz. Plus, with mate, I don't have to worry about the dehydration or digestive problems that coffee causes. And it tastes so good. I love all the flavors of Pixie Mate."
"The most important effect of Pixie Mate for me has been in alleviating my asthma, something I've had since I was a child. I certainly feel the difference in my lungs when I drink mate before exercise and throughout the day."
So if you come to Boulder and see a blur run past on the ridgeline above town, it's probably Steve, hyped up on mate, getting ready for an ultra-race. "Go Steve, Go".
